Kimi Johnson, the visionary behind PurposePals Publishing, embodies this belief, using her platform to empower aspiring authors and bring powerful stories to life. As the founder of the fastest-growing Black woman-owned publishing company, she is redefining the literary landscape—one manuscript at a time.

With over twelve years of entrepreneurial experience, Kimi’s journey began in the world of cosmetology, where she combined her business acumen with her passion for writing. Through the years, she expanded her influence by consulting with organizations, developing curricula for non-profits and federal agencies, and ultimately discovering her love for content creation.

​

Amid the challenges of the pandemic, Kimi took a bold step forward, founding PurposePals Publishing—a company dedicated to helping authors shape their stories through a signature 12-week program. With the guidance of PurposePals, writers receive editorial support and mentorship throughout the publishing process, ensuring their voices are heard and their messages impact the world.

In addition to her work in publishing, Kimi is also an author. With her debut poetry collection, My Umbrella Has Holes in It, she shares her own journey of healing, faith, and self-acceptance, offering readers a heartfelt glimpse into resilience and transformation.

Despite her remarkable success, Kimi’s journey was not without hardship. The loss of her mother tested her faith and resilience, but she remained steadfast, relying on God’s guidance to navigate both business and life. Today, she continues to inspire others by sharing the wisdom that has shaped her own path:

Looking ahead, Kimi is expanding her nonprofit to support young authors, fostering the next generation of storytellers. She is also preparing to release her highly anticipated novel series, fulfilling her lifelong dream of crafting fiction that captivates and inspires. With a heart for adventure and a love for travel, she envisions writing from the balconies of high-rises in the world’s most breathtaking cities, savoring both the journey and the joy of creation.

Above all, Kimi treasures time with her family, finding joy in making memories, celebrating others, and creating spaces where stories can flourish. Through it all, she remains grounded in gratitude, embracing each day as an opportunity to make an impact. As she often reminds herself and others: “When life gets tough, be light-hearted and dance.”

She believes in and practices Nonviolent Communication (NVC) and proudly uses NVC strategies to create a safe and transparent space for her clients to be seen, heard, and valued.
